I have been an employee at Holliday ISD for 4 years. I served as a Special Education paraprofessional in the Elemetary for two years, and this will be my second year as the 8th grade English teacher. Holliday is home to me, and I feel so blessed to be able to serve the school that shaped who I am today. It’s going to be a great school year! HERO
My route to teaching was unconventional. I graduated with a degree in Radiologic Sciences and worked as a radiologic technologist for two years. Prior to majoring in radiology, I wanted to be a teacher, but I decided to try the medical field. I finally got the courage to change careers and pursue my dreams of being in education when my husband was hired at Holliday. While working as a paraprofessional, I enrolled in iTeach Texas, an alternative certification program. Although the words “alternative certification” may sound like a lackluster term, it is a wonderful program that gives teachers the same training and material as a traditional program at a four-year college. I completed all course work, passed all required testing, and finished up my internship year with high praises from my iTeach Field Supervisor. I feel confident that I have found what was missing in my previous career: purpose.
I have been married for 5 years to my high school sweetheart, Seth Oliver, more commonly known as Coach O around Holliday. We currently do not have any children, but we have two dogs, Piper and Poppy. Piper is eight, and Poppy is 4 months.
