Holliday ISD is “Recognized for Performance” on the State Accountability System

All campuses in Holliday ISD “met” standard based on the New TEA accountability system mandated by the Texas Legislature. The District received a score of 89 out 100 (B) which is labeled as “Recognized Performance” under the new system.

We are proud of the performance of our students and staff under this new accountability system, however we do not believe the label is accurate or truly representative of the performance of our students or staff. For districts like Holliday the majority of the rating is based on scores from a single test given once a year.

In Holliday we offer Algebra to 8th grade students which in turn allows those students to take Geometry in the 9th grade which is in the best interest of our students. The effect this has on accountability is that HISD does not get credit for growth on the 8th grade students or credit for the scores of advanced 9th graders taking Geometry.  This is just one example of several that illustrates how the accountability system is not accurate for HISD.

No matter how the state labels Holliday ISD, we will continue to improve the job we do educating children and fulfilling our mission “to provide a world class education for all students in a culture of academic and extracurricular excellence.”
