District Closure Update March 20, 2020

Holliday ISD hopes that all of our students and staff had a good “Spring Break” even though with all of the changes to all our lives because of the COVID-19 outbreak it may have been hard to do.

Normally our teachers and staff would be coming back from break excited for the spring semester and looking forward to seeing our students and getting back into our routines. Unfortunately, at this time, that is not going to happen and much of the changes are beyond our control.

What we can do is have a positive attitude, work together and make the best of a less than optimal situation. Our teachers are probably the most disappointed, because they love our students and do this job for them. While the way we do things for the foreseeable future will be different, know that our intention is to continue supporting our students and maintain that sense of community that is the strength of Holliday ISD.

The priorities of Holliday ISD during this time are:

  1. The health and safety of our students, staff and community.
  2.  The well-being of special population students (Special Ed, Low SES, At-Risk)
  3. The continued academic growth and support of all students.
  4. Maintaining a sense of connectedness and school community for our students and parents.

So where are we now?

  • Holliday ISD campuses are closed to students until at least April 3rd based on orders from the Governor, which is a minimum of two weeks past our Spring Break.
  • The UIL has stopped all UIL activities until May 4th. As a parent or student please assume that all other school related activities will probably not occur until at least after May 4th.

So what will Holliday ISD be doing next week?

  • Providing “Grab and Go Meals” for students Monday thru Friday to be picked up at the Elementary School between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. If you are unable to pick up the meals please contact us Monday at 940-586-1281 so that we can arrange for delivery.
  • Monday HISD administrators will meet to finalize a plan to support teachers as they prepare academic resources for our students.
  • Tuesday teachers will begin preparing academic supports and resources for students.
  • Wednesday HISD will update parents and students and begin implementing academic supports and resources.

I know there are a tremendous amount of unanswered questions. Please be patient and hopefully we can come up with workable solutions as we move forward.
