Return to School in 2020 - A letter from new Superintendent Cody Carroll

Hello Holliday ISD Families,

I am honored to be able to send this letter out to each of you today as superintendent of Holliday ISD.  I am excited to be joining the team here at Holliday and look forward to meeting each of you.  My family and I have been overwhelmed with positive messages welcoming us to the school and the community and we couldn’t be happier to be here.

I know the big question on everyone’s mind is what will school look like in the fall?  I wish I could tell you that it will all be back to normal starting August 17th, but unfortunately, there are still too many unknowns for me to make that promise.  What I can tell you is that we are doing everything we can to prepare for our students to come back to school as planned.  We are currently working on plans to make sure the campuses are as clean and safe as we can make them.  We are discussing the different safety protocols that we will need to put in place and I will communicate that to you as soon as possible.

Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath has stated that schools will be required to offer both in-person learning at school and remote learning opportunities from home.  We know that some of our students will be hesitant to return to a school setting due to personal or family medical concerns.  Our plan is to provide both of these opportunities to our students.  We have not finalized the details of how either of these options will look, but I will be sending out regular communications to keep everyone up to speed on the progress.

Attached to this letter, you will find the link to a survey we are asking all of our families to fill out.  This will give us a better idea of what to prepare for at the start of the new school year.  For now, the Commissioner has given individual districts limited discretion to make decisions that best fit what our families want to see with the return to school in Holliday ISD.  We will be utilizing the responses to help formulate a plan that reflects what our community expects from the school.

I understand that the last few months have been a difficult time for everyone and we all long for a return to our normal lives.  We are dedicated to providing the closest thing to normal that we can with our return to school.  There are many great things happening here at Holliday ISD and I look forward to continuing that in the 2020-2021 school year.

Sincerely,

Cody Carroll

Superintendent

Holliday ISD
