Mr. Bruce Kirk Patterson, a native of Friona, Texas, has lived in Lubbock, Canyon, Crosbyton, Houston, Austin, Denver City, & Wichita Falls. Bruce was born and raised in Friona, Texas. He is the youngest of seven children. While in Friona, he developed a strong work ethic and many other core fundamental values that are important to him today. While growing up in Friona he became knowledgeable in farming, beef cattle, and the construction industries. Bruce enjoyed school, sports, and the FFA. He admired his teachers and coaches.
Bruce attended West Texas State University where he pursued a career in education, ultimately becoming a teacher and coach. After graduation in 1989, he worked as a substitute for the Canyon and Amarillo school districts. Mr. Patterson took his first teaching anc coaching position with Crosbyton Independent School District and Crosbyton High School.
In December of 1993, he married Carol Lynn Arnold, a native of Odessa, and a graduate of Odessa Permian High School and Texas Tech University. Bruce has been happily married to Carol for 24 ½ years. After Carol’s graduation from Texas Tech in 1994, the Patterson’s moved to Houston where she would complete her master’s degree and internship at Texas Woman’s University to become a Registered/ Licensed Dietitian. Bruce was employed at Stafford Municipal School District and Stafford High School in Stafford, Texas, a suburb of Houston, as a teacher and coach. After Carol’s completion of her masters degree the Patterson’s moved to Austin. In 1996, Bruce took a teaching and coaching position with the Austin Independent School and Anderson High School. Carol was employed with Seton Medical Center in Austin.
While living in Austin, the Patterson family grew with the birth of two children, Katy in 1997, and Kade in 1999. Soon after the birth of Kade, the Patterson’s moved from Austin to Denver City, where Bruce enjoyed many teaching, coaching, and administrative successes with Denver City Independent School District. Mr. Patterson carried with him a teaching experience at both the middle and high school levels as well a teaching experience in rural and urban settings.
While in Denver City, Bruce served as principal and assistant principal, he taught government, economics, and driver education at Denver City High School, a public school in rural west Texas. He also served as the defensive coordinator for the football team, varsity assistant basketball, and head track & field coach. Kase was born in 2002, completing the Patterson family. Also in 2002, Coach Patterson was recognized as the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year. In 2004, Carol was also employed with Denver City Independent School District where she served as the district’s Child Nutrition Director. In 2007, Bruce enrolled at Sul Ross State University Graduate School to pursue a master’s degree of education with a major in school administration. In 2010, Mr. Patterson graduated from Sul Ross State University with a master’s degree in school administration. In 2011 Denver City I.S.D. recognized Mr. Patterson with Mirabeau B. Lamar Teacher of the Year Award. Also in 2011, he became the high school assistant principal and in 2012, Denver City’s High School principal.
In 2016, Bruce became the principal of Holliday High School. Carol became the Child Nutrition Director for the Henrietta Independent School District. Currently, Carol serves as a Child Nutrition Specialist at the Region 9 Education Service Center in Wichita Falls. When not at school, Bruce enjoys spending time with his wife and kids.
Bruce is currently in his 29th year of public education and his 8th year in school administration. Mr. Patterson is a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of School Principals, and a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association.
The Patterson family has three children, Katy, Kade, & Kase. The Patterson’s also have a spoiled dog named Max.
Katy is 20, and is attending Oklahoma Christian University. Katy is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Gaming and Animation.
Kade is 19, and is a 2018 Holliday High School graduate. Kade will be attending The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in the fall. Kade will be pursuing a Biology Major/Pre-Dental degree.
Kase is 16, and is currently a junior and in the Class of 2020 at Holliday High School. Kase’s future plans are to major in Education and to ultimately become a secondary school teacher.
Bruce and his family attend the First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls.
